Here is a current story on the eight skeletons found in Ft. Myers, FL in March 2007. ChicagoMom, has this story been running in your area?

The bones of a suburban Chicago man missing since 1995 have been found in a mass grave in Fort Myers, Florida. The eight deaths have been ruled homicides. Authorities have not said how the victims died, citing the ongoing investigation. The bodies, all white males, date back as far as 1980.

I go to Ft. Myers quite frequently & read their Gannett newspaper...the crime rate there is a lot like Tallahassee!

Crime is out of control! I predict that this trend will continue as times get harder & harder.

My dear old dad used to say that we would, "in my lifetime"... have a "lawlessness that will be unheard of!"...I'm thinking that we are very close to that now. I shudder to think what our "safe American world" will be like when my little grands grow up!

I wonder what it's going to be like for my children in another decade or two. When I was in grade school, near the end of the Vietnam War, I can remember my mother having a conversation with a friend. The lady was shaking her head and saying she really felt sorry for "them" (pointing towards her daughter and me). Now I'm the one shaking my head and feeling sorry for "them". I'm curious.....if you could live in another country which one would you pick and why?

Fungshway, whenever I see wording similar to "authorities have not said how the victims died, citing the ongoing investigation" my mind jumps to the conclusion that it was a very gruesome and violent death like decapitation or cremation instead of a gunshot wound which is usually stated in an article. It's horrifying to see that so many people with toxic brains are running around loose in the world.

Hey all. Last week I watched a special on Discovery (IIRC) about the murders in a woodland in Australia. Seems hitchhikers (very popular area for backpackers) were vanishing, and starting to be found in the woods. Under fallen trees, for example. They speculated these young people were being used for target practice, and maybe hunted thru the forest. The violence escalated to the point one female was bound and blindfolded and , sadly, decapitated with a very long saber. They did they whole profile thing and came pretty close to being right on. It was a violent guy who had served time in prison but went on to create this good looking life to outsiders but was still mean. The one hitcher that got away when the bad guy stopped the car and went around back to get a gun. He saw it and jumped out. Point? There are crazies all over doing this same stuff. Interesting is however the profiler was right about timing - everytime this guy had a break in a relationship - like lovers spat/split - guess what happened? has to do with regaining some control, some power. hmm

Yes, sadly the world is full of Dennis Rader (BTK) types. Is it the drugs (including society's overuse of pharmaceuticals with limited short term testing that we don't have any idea of their long term effects), hormone disrupting chemicals (pesticides and other xenoestrogens), and/or electromagnetic radiation (mostly from cell phones)?

GMH seems to have had decades of frequent "lovers spats/splits". I wonder what was the true catalyst in September? Did someone try to change the rules of "the game"?

something is up at the old place. when i click on the forum, all i get is an empty page. i even did a "people search" for my name and nada, zilch, nothing shows up. just another empty page. it may be just another fluke over there but i have never seen the whole forum disappear.

now sept tabor threw hilton out, for some reason. did anybody ever see if tabor pulled a building permit for that remodel job of his? wonder if he charged it off as an "expense" since i am sure he was showcasing his products.

what was the actual living arrangement for hilton while he was there? first it was described as a room then an apartment - since gapea for sure was there maybe she remembers. did he have a separate door in and out?

we need to find somebody that knows what how the "market" worked through the past decade or so. also, i am going to go back thru that van inventory with a different perspective - while i don't know what one would require other than a shovel and maybe a sifter, and a map, what else do you need for such a project?

wonder if there are any areas in the brevard nc region that would have had goodies worth looking for. i mean, he drives up from ga to brevard, following that route he told the pickens sc LE, not interstates-then only goes so far as the trail head he grabbed the bryants from? wasn't there any other parks further up the road, say along the blue ridge pkwy? then he turns around,promptly, and heads to tenn. then back to florida? and just happens to find that tag on the broken down car in nc - which he didn't need to use for months? could it be possible that was the first time hilton thought he might need to hide from le? could this have been the first time he killed? he didn't put it on until the heat was on there in georgia.

GaPeach do you know if there is a building permit? I'll have to ask our "photographer" who took those early spring pictures, and we know remodeling was still going on back then. Was Hilton living upstairs in that house/place of business or in a room off the back of the main level (or perhaps in a coffin in the basement like Barnabas Collins ).

- John Tabor, owner of a suburban residential siding company, sent his
family packing and started sleeping with a pistol and rifle nearby for
fear employee Gary Michael Hilton would make good on a threat to kill
him. Hilton never came knocking. But months later, Tabor heard
on the news the description of the man suspected of kidnapping and
killing hiker in the mountains on New Year's Day: A wiry white man in
his 60s who drove a white minivan and had a red dog named Dandy. Tabor says he knew instantly it was Hilton. "He couldn't go anywhere without that dog," Tabor said Tuesday. Hilton,
61, was charged last week with killing 24-year-old hiker Meredith
Emerson, a University of Georgia graduate who worked in Winder. Now, a
growing list of police agencies has named him as a suspect or person of
interest in killings and at least two disappearances in or around
forests stretching from Florida to North Carolina. Up until
last summer, Hilton seemed to be little more than a twice-divorced
petty criminal with a record that included drug and theft charges, a
loner who had no neighbors and no fixed address. But then he took a
strange and menacing turn. He started acting more withdrawn,
and he couldn't complete entire sentences. His once relatively normal
appearance - "like a friendly grandpa," Tabor said - had transformed.
Hilton now looked disheveled with gaping holes in his mouth, and he
told Tabor he had taken a pair of pliers to his mouth to remove a
rotten tooth himself. "He said that he enjoyed his new look
because it scared people," recalled Tabor, who hired Hilton about 10
years ago to distribute fliers and to work as a telemarketer. "It was
shocking to hear what he was saying." Then, in September, Tabor
said Hilton threatened to kill him if he didn't fork over $10,000. The
police told Tabor they could only file charges against Hilton for
making harassing phone calls, and none were filed. One of the
last people to see Hilton before he was arrested was Amanda Peacock, a
Huddle House waitress in Marble Hill, who let the man use the
restaurant's telephone on Jan. 3. She remembers him as being fidgety,
loud and "suspicious." By then, Tabor had heard the police
description and was able to call authorities to identify Hilton. And to
his surprise, Hilton called him from the pay phone just hours later. Tabor
said Hilton apologized for the problems he caused and begged for money
and his job back. Thinking on his feet, Tabor played along. He told
Hilton he was happy to hear from him, and offered to advance him money
to pick up at his northeast Atlanta office the next day. The next day, police nabbed Hilton at a northeast Atlanta gas station. "And pretty much the game was over," Tabor said. Published in the Athens Banner-Herald on 011708

Tazebell I do know that Franklin, NC is Mecca to gem collectors. Franklin is often referred to as the "Gem Capital of the World". Hilton has a thing for rocks. Franklin, NC is in Macon County which is the county in which John Bryant's body was found!

should we name something "the game is over" - sure enuf shows up a lot, doesn't it? also, was it confirmed where tabor was when he saw the news reports initially? and where he was when the hudhouse call? why do i think i recall he and his wife together saw the news report? and the only logical explanation i have thought of for that very long delay in getting the police up to Hdhouse was maybe tabor was out of town and that made tracing the call difficult? wonder if HudHouse has caller id? and it was a cell phone tabor was called on, wasn't it? sorry for the recaps, mind gets whirring.
rotted teeth/not rotted teeth. can't talk in complete sentences? well, then, what would cause a person to change so very much, but once arrested is speaking in very complete and thought out sentences. No illegal drugs in jail and we aren't hearing about theraputics, but could he have been given anything so soon that would have allowed him to provide the info he did on that car ride, just days after being arrested at the gas station? so did killing meredith cause his personality to shift back to normal?

re: tara g -the comment that gary hilton was going to be questioned in her disappearance. well, i don't see that in any discussion of the 'cold case' update of nancy grace's show at all, just a review of what is known about the last night she was seen. since an 'envelope' of money was left in her car, i find it highly unlikely our suspect would have been in her car and then left the money behind. i don't recall reading if she had any withdrawals from an atm machine however.

I never saw anything about Tara G. and ATM withdrawals. Harriman25 is another reinvented poster like fatcat1944. There seems to be a group of TDO or LE that post all day long (along with a lot of bored state and city workers during the day hours).
